There are no words to describe how much I love Sintra! I have been there every time I went to Portugal and I am definitely planning to go again. Sintra is located just 30 km away from Lisbon and is easily accessible by car or public transportation. The beauty and the history of the place is something that brings a lot of tourists there every year, but it’s not just another touristy destination. Sintra has an incredible energy, interesting history and is definitely a spot for photographers. It is a place that makes me dream away. Sintra is a must when in Lisbon, and I am going to help you to make the most out of your trip.
Hamburg is a beautiful city with interesting history and great vibes. It is famous for it’s harbor and the amazing “Speicherstadt”. It is also famous for its weather. Hamburg is located directly on the river Elbe, close to the North Sea and Baltic Sea. It is often cold, rainy and windy. Especially in winter there is little sun and a lot of short, grey days. However, Hamburg is amazing at any time of the year, if you know how to use this time. What to do in Hamburg if the weather is bad? I have collected some nice ideas for you. They would be a great fit to those who live in Hamburg, or as inspiration for those who are visiting.
Granada is a huge attraction for so many people from all over the world, mainly because of the Alhambra. This palace and fortress complex is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has fairly deserved its reputation as one of the most beautiful ones in the world. I know that many take just a day trip to Granada to explore the Alhambra and then move on. I guess if you are limited in time, it’s an option. However, if you have time, I recommend you to stay longer, experience the incredible mix of cultures and enjoy what it has to offer. Granada has so many hidden gems, and I have discovered some of them for you.
Gibraltar has always been a mysterious and a distant place for me. When I was small I imagined it as a cold, misty place where the sea is rough and ships are breaking against the high cliffs. Don’t ask me how this kind of image of Gibraltar got into my head! To be honest I never hoped to find out how it really is — it was so far away from where I was growing up. In addition, I knew my Russian passport would require a very special visa to go to this place. Years later absolutely by chance I have got to find out that Gibraltar is a sunny and hot place, and even with my Russian passport I didn’t need a visa to go there.
Halkidiki, also spelled Chalkidiki, is a peninsula in Northern Greece. It is located not far from Thessaloniki on the Aegean Sea and consists of three so-called “fingers”: Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. It is a great vacation destination, which is, in my opinion, overlooked by some even experienced travellers. It seems that the gorgeous Greek islands are much more popular and there is relatively little known about the area of Halkidiki.
Hamburg is a pearl in Northern Germany. This city is amazing and there is so much to do and to see. There are also so many things to do around the city. If you are looking for some great places for a day trip from Hamburg, I have you covered! Small old towns, beautiful hiking routes, cycling paths, incredible coast sides and beautiful Northern cities with rich and fascinating history — all this is available just an hour or so away from Hamburg’s city center.
Everyone knows that Japan is different, even mysterious and sometimes crazy. I have fallen in love with this country, because of its rich and fascinating culture, beautiful nature, delicious food, polite and friendly people. But not only! I had so many "Wow" moments and unusual things happening to me in Japan. At one point I started to wonder if all that was really happening to me. Hamburg is one of the most amazing cities in Germany. I consider myself very lucky that I have accidentally landed here three and a half years ago, and stayed. Hamburg is an international, open-minded city with a long history and truly amazing sights. Today I call this city my home. Very often my family and friends from abroad come for a visit. Every time someone says that they are coming over, I have to plan their stay and a tour of the city. So, I decided to put together a list of my favorite places and best sights in Hamburg that are a must see during a first visit. Feel free to use this list for planning a stay for your guests in town! Or use it to get some ideas for your own stay in this amazing “Hansestadt”.
Road-trip is a great way to explore any country. It’s awesome to be independent from train or bus schedules. It also means that you can actually change your route as spontaneous as you want. My first ever road-trip was in Portugal, and it was amazing. Of course, we had a plan, but having a car gave us freedom and ability to be flexible. If you ever want to do a road-trip in Portugal, you need to read this article!
London is one of the most fascinating and vibrant cities in the world. It is definitely a place to be! What anyone who is visiting London for the first time will immediately notice is that it is a beautiful and busy, but also a very expensive city. There are a lot of cheap flights to London, but prices for accommodation, food and transportation are really high. A great thing about London is that some of the sights that tourists want to see are available for free! If you know where to go, you can discover amazing spots in London without paying a penny. How to see it all on a budget — check my list of cool things to do in London for free.
Ok, just to make it clear from the first line — I really liked Budapest, and in my previous blog-post you can read about all the things I loved in Budapest. However, like in every trip there were highs and lows. This is a very small article about some touristic attractions that I would definitely skip on my next visit to the Hungarian capital. Or at least search for a better alternative.
If, just like me before, you think about Budapest as a capital in Eastern Europe that you want to visit, but, maybe, next time, stop it. Stop it immediately. Read this post, pack your stuff and just go to Budapest! The Hungarian capital is a great place to do some awesome sightseeing, experience the rich European culture, treat yourself to some great food and just relax.
Copenhagen is just perfect for a longer weekend! Why? Well, it is really expensive to stay there for longer. BUT! It is a beautiful city with lots of cute corners and interesting things to do and
to see. If you are around and have the chance of visiting Copenhagen, do it — you’ll love the views, colors and relaxed atmosphere. This is kind of city, where you feel comfortable and can easily
find your way around just after a couple of hours being there. What I loved there is that most of the things you can actually do or see are for free!
Madeira is an awesome and very unusual Portuguese island, located not so far away from its more famous neighbors the Canary Islands. It’s my most favorite island! The volcanic origin, cliffs, vegetation, mountains, food, people, ocean, weather — everything is just perfect there.
